Hunger Relief for Somalia

I know that many of us were heartbroken by the images from the Horn of Africa a few months ago - the children, the families...it was devastating to see.

Unfortunately, the mainstream media has moved onto other topics, but the hunger crisis in Somalia is not over.  It may have gotten some immediate relief with all the fundraising drives but more help is still needed.  In fact, they are projecting that the hunger crisis will worsen over the coming months due to high food prices, the poor July harvest, livestock dying and insecurity that limits humanitarian access to the region.

There is still much work to do and Charity Wings hopes you'll help us do our part!

During CHA Chicago, the very talented Crafty Chica decorated a footstool for The Upholstery Studio.  She asked the Upholstery Studio if they would consider donating the footstool to Charity Wings for a fundraiser, and of course they said yes!  It was very generous of them to do so, but they believed in what we do.

Charity Wings is currently raffling off the footstool to benefit the work of Action Against Hunger. Each raffle ticket is $5 or buy 6 tickets for $20 (that's two free tickets!).

You can purchase tickets here until October 11, 2011!

How to make a recycled Pumy

Supplies:
Helmar Glue
Old Tshirt (orange or you can hand dye orange)
Westcott Non Stick Scissors
Straw
Bread Ties (2)
White T-Shirt scrap (for face)
Embroidery floss & needle
Fade out Marker

Take your T-shirt and cut it into strips. Scrunch up some of the strips to make a ball and start wrapping the remaining strips around the ball glue posts down with the Helmar as you go.

Now you have your Pumy head

Cut 2 - 1 " pieces of the straw and glue on the bottom of Pumy's head for his feet.

Cut 1" pieces of the straw then cut it in half so you have two pieces.

cut the hands

Glue hands on the side of Pumy's head -I tucked mine in the t-shirt then glue in place

take the bread ties and wrap them around your finger to create a loop then tuck them in the t shirt and glue in place on the top of pumy's head

with your Fade marker make a Pumy face on the white tshirt

Embroider the face- it might be helpful to put a piece of stabilizer on the back of the t-shirt while embroidering.

I just did a satin stitch and some french knots

The things we do for a Cure…

Creating a World without
Breast Cancer

All of us have been touched in some way by Breast Cancer…a family member, a co-worker, a friend, ourselves, in one way, shape, or form it has entered our lives and altered it in some fashion. 1 in 8 women will develop invasive Breast Cancer in the course of her lifetime. To find a cure there are walks, crops and a gazillion fundraisers out in the world all making a joint effort to continue the fight to find a Cure for this horrible disease.

Charity Wings is no different, in fact the fight against Breast Cancer and the need to raise donations to help fund research and education grants for this fight is at the very core of why Charity Wings was founded and what brought Elena and I together. So over the next two months we’re going to launch a campaign against Breast Cancer.

To start this off, we’re launching a
“Create a World without Breast Cancer” Campaign.

This last Saturday that campaign got a jump start, some of the ladies who are participating in the 3Day Crop this year, got together for a team building meeting, we discussed the variety of things that they are doing to raise their required donation of $2,000.00 for the 3Day Crop, proceeds from the 3Day Crop benefit the Inland Empire Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Here are some of the ways you can support these ladies over the next few weeks:

  1. Imagine a World without Breast Cancer To get things started, we're going to first Imagine a world without Breast Cancer and what a better way to do that, than to give away a brand new Cricut Imagine Die cutting Machine from Provo Craft. This prize has a $599.00 retail value and is the latest and great thing to come from the awesome people at Provo Craft. We will choose a winner Nov 13th at the 3Day Crop.  Click here to buy tickets and read more
  2. Crop for the Cure, $30 donation this Saturday, September 24th,10 am till 5pm in Rancho Cucamonga there are still spaces available so if you are interested please contact De Hart at tiggerfreak@att.net
  3. Play Golf Kathie Taylor is hosting the 4th Annual Drive 4 the Cure at the Escondido Country Club on Sunday, October 23rd, there are still spaces available for this awesome and fun event. I am so not a golfer, and I cannot begin to tell you about all I’ve learned in helping Kathie with this event. You can contact Kathie at kataylor27@yahoo.com
  4. Join the fight against Breast Cancer , we’re raffling off a seat to the 3Day Crop being held November 11-13, 2011 at the Scrap Retreat Inn. It’s a 3 day/2night weekend retreat filled with prizes and surprises celebrating life! for details CLICK HERE.
  5. Give a hoot and get a hoot!  Not interested in garage sales, bake sales, Bunco parties, golfing or raffles, but still want to help with the fight against Breast Cancer you can just simply go to our website and make a donation. Anyone who makes a donation of $25.00 or more during the month of October will receive one of these adorable handmade owls, to show that they give a “Hoot” about finding a Cure. Just simply place “Hoot” in the memo box when making your donation and we’ll send you a little pink owl as a Thank you! CLICK HERE TO DONATE
  6. The ladies will also be hosting some Bunco for Boobies nights, garage sales, and bake sales so keep an eye on our newsletter for details.
I hope this campaign allows you to support this very worthy cause.
